Description
This edition of Mozart's Sonata for bassoon and cello, K. 292 (196c) pursues an innovative concept: not only does it reproduce the obbligato parts, but it also adds a new dimension of sound to the interpretation of the work by providing an additional piano part that is wholly in keeping with the thoroughbass practice which was still very much alive in Mozarts day.
This charming work can be played several ways from this edition: as a duo sonata following the transmitted version, as a solo sonata for cello or bassoon with piano accompaniment, and as a small ensemble work for two melody instruments (bassoons or celli or one of each) and piano or harpsichord.
